Arytenoid cartilage
Other Terms:
Cartilago arytenoidea,
Cartilage aryténoïde
Description
Arytenoid cartilages are a pair of small triangular cartilages. Each has a base and apex and has three surfaces. The apex is pointy and covered by a small nodule called the corniculate cartilage. The base of the cartilages is broad and has a smooth surface for articulation with the cricoid cartilage. The arytenoid cartilages are the part of the larynx to which the vocal cords are attached. This attachment and articulation aid in sound production.
