Posterior fornix

The arches formed by the reflection of the wall of the vagina upon the front and back of the cervix are known as the anterior fornix and the posterior fornix, the latter being much larger and deeper because of the higher attachment of the vaginal wall on the posterior aspect of the cervix and consequent greater length of the posterior wall of the vagina.
