Lateral condyle of the femur
Other Terms:
Condylus lateralis femoris
Description
Notice the resemblance of the femoral condyles to the knuckles on the first two fingers of your hand. This landmark forms the knob-like distolateral end of the femur. Its lateral projection is flat, less prominent than its medial counterpart, yet still easily palpable. Articular cartilage covers most of its posterior and distal surfaces. The anterior cartilage surface extends farther proximally than that of the medial condyle.
Etymology
This term derives from the Greek word kondulos meaning knuckle or knob.
Latin
Condylus lateralis femoris
