Head of fibula

Description

The head is the moderately expanded proximal end of the fibula. It serves as the attachment site for the extensor digitorum longus, peroneus longus, soleus, and biceps femoris muscles. The fibular collateral and tibiofibular capsular ligaments also attach here. This landmark is easily palpated.

Etymology

Head, or its Latin equivalent caput, refers to a rounded extremity on bone.
