Vertebral ligaments
Description
Inconspicuous ligaments that often blend with intertransverse muscles. They are irregular in the cervical region, where they are predominantly replaced by muscle. They form more distinct bands in the thoracic region where they blend with muscle tissue. In the lumbar region they are thin sheets associated with the muscle tissue.
Function
Limit lateral flexion of the vertebral column.
