Description
Emerging from the tip of the transverse process of the fifth lumbar vertebra, this ligament expands laterally to attach via a lumbosacral portion to the lateral surface of the sacrum, where it blends with the anterior sacroiliac ligament and an upper iliac portion. This upper portion tapers onto the posterior crest of the ilium, where it provides attachment for the quadratus lumborum muscle.
Function
Assists in stabilizing the sacroiliac joint.
