Sacrococcygeal joints and ligaments
Other Terms:
Ligaments of the vertebrae - sacral region
Description
At the caudal end of the vertebral column the ligaments become modified in association with the developmental fusions of the vertebrae of the sacral region. Strong ligaments develop to anchor the lower lumbar vertebrae to the sacrum and many of the ligaments typical to other regions of the vertebral column are lost between the fused sacral elements.
