Description

This is a spiral ligamentous band centrally with flat straight bands above and below this central portion. It passes posterior to the hip joint where it blends with the fibrous capsule. The central fibers (superior ischiofemoral ligament) spiral superiorly around the neck of the femur from the posterior surface of the ischium to the medial surface of the greater trochanter of the femur.
