Description

The lateral arcuate ligament is a thickened horizontal band of fascia over the upper aspect of the quadratus lumborum muscle at the posterior margin of the diaphragm. It attaches to the anterior surface of the first lumbar vertebra’s transverse process and crosses laterally to attach to the mid portion of the twelfth rib.
