Papillae of tongue
Other Terms: Papillae of tongue, Papillae linguales, Papilles linguales
There are four sets of papillae of the tongue: the filiform papillae, the fungiform papillae, the vallate papillae, and the follate papillae. The function of the papillae of the tongue is thought to be to flush materials from the base of the circular depression to help taste buds respond to ever-changing stimuli. They are located on the upper surface of the tongue.
