Description
The fungiform papillae are located on the upper surface of the tongue. They are more numerous than the vallate papillae. They resemble small knobs and are the red spots that are seen best on the sides and anterior portion of the dorsum of the tongue. They do contain taste buds. They are scattered throughout the filiform papillae. They have a strong core of connective tissue.
