Etymology
In English, this muscle’s name is the crosswise muscle of the chin. The Latin term transversus means “crosswise” and comes from Latin trans meaning “across, beyond, or through” and the Latin verb vertere meaning “to turn.” Menti comes from the Latin word mentum meaning “chin.”
Origin
Interdigitates with opposite muscle inferior to the mental tubercle of the mandible
Insertion
Blends with fibers of the depressor anguli oris near the bottom margin of the mandible
Action
Assist with pulling the lower lip downward and help to tighten the skin over the chin.

Submental branch of the facial artery.
