Description

This is an impression on the internal surface of the bone at the mastoid angle. The impression is formed by a small portion of the sigmoid venous sinus near its confluence with the transverse venous sinus.

Etymology

Sulcus is Latin for groove or a hollow channel. Sigmoid means shaped like the letter "S." It comes from the Greek letter "S" or sigma.
