Ventral muscles of the abdominal ...

Description

The longitudinally directed rectus abdominis is the major contributor to the strong anterior wall. Traversing this thick, strap-like muscle are three transverse fibrous bands called the tendinous intersections, which divide the muscle into four segments. This is the major flexor muscle of the vertebral column. A small, variable pyramidalis muscle also contributes to this muscle group.
