Anterior ethmoid foramen or notch ...
This can be a foramen or a notch that completes a foramen when combined with the ethmoid bone. It sits midway back along the serrate ethmoidal border of the medial orbital wall. It transmits the anterior ethmoidal vessels and nerve.
The term ethmoid comes from the Greek term ethmos meaning a sieve. Galen called the bone the sieve-like bone because of the many small foramina that transmit the olfactory nerves to the nasal cavity. Foramen is the Latin term designating a hole-like opening. It is derived from the Latin forare meaning to bore or perforate.
