Etymology
The muscle’s name in English is the square muscle that turns the hand palm downward. The word pronator comes from the Latin pronus, which means “inclined forward or lying face downward.”The word quadratus comes from the Latin quadrus for “square.”
Origin
Oblique ridge on anterior surface of the distal ulna
Insertion
Distal quarter of the radius on the anterolateral surface and into the area just above the ulnar notch of the radius

Major pronator (always active in pronation); stabilizes separation of the radius and ulna when hand is forced into wrist joint

Median nerve (C7 and C8)
