Description
The triceps surae is the name given the combined gastrocnemius and soleus muscles. These large superficial muscles of the posterior crus combine to form a common tendon, the tendocalcaneus, or Achilles tendon. This strong tendon, rivaled only by the quadriceps tendon, is one of the two largest tendons in the body. This muscle makes up the majority of the posterior compartment of the crus.
