Description

The posterior compartment of the crus comprises the large muscle mass on the back of the leg that is often referred to as the calf of the leg. This compartment has two distinct muscle groups – the large superficial group consists of three muscles that insert on the calcaneal tuber. These muscles include the gastrocnemius, the soleus, and the plantaris.
