Deep muscles of the posterior ...
Description
The posterior compartment of the crus comprises the large muscle mass on the back of the leg that is often referred to as the calf of the leg. This compartment has two distinct muscle groups – the smaller deep group consists of four muscles, three of which wrap around the medial malleolus. These are the flexor hallucis longus, flexor digitorum longus, and tibialis anterior. The fourth muscle in the group is the deeply situated popliteus behind the knee joint.
