Description

This is the transversely oriented ridge of bone that forms the anterior boundary of the articular or mandibular fossa. It continues anterolaterally as the anterior root of the zygomatic process.

Etymology

Articular is from the Latin verb articulare meaning to join. Tubercle is from the Latin tuber meaning a lump and the diminutive suffix -cle denoting a small lump.
