Muscles of facial expression


The muscles of facial expression do not attach to bone, and both the origin and insertion are in the hypodermis. The following muscles are in this group: occipitofrontalis (frontal and occipital belly), temporoparietalis, procerus, orbicularis oculi, depressor septi, nasalis, levator labii superioris alaeque nasi, orbicularis oris, levator labii superioris, zygomaticus (major and minor), buccinator, risorius, depressor anguli oris, levator anguli oris, depressor labii inferioris, mentalis, platysma, and auricularis muscles.
