Condyloid process


Description

This rounded, knob-like projection forms the articular surface that joins the temporal bone. It is situated on the posterosuperior angle of the ramus. It has two parts - a constricted neck arising from the ramus, and a rounded articular head situated above the neck.

Etymology

The word condyloid arises from the Greek word kondulos meaning knuckle or knob. The term process is Latin meaning to move forward. It denotes a projection of bone.
