Description

This is the rounded articular portion of the condyloid process. Articular cartilage covers this landmark and it articulates with the temporomandibular joints articular disc.

Etymology

Mandible originally arose from the Latin verb mandere meaning to chew. The term head refers to a smooth, rounded articular surface. The Latin equivalent is caput.
