Posterior lacrimal crest

Description

This is a vertical ridge of bone that separates the groove-like anterior part of the medial surface from the flat posterior part of the medial surface. This crest ends inferiorly by curving anteriorly as a small hook. It forms the posterior boundary of the nasolacrimal sulcus.

Etymology

The Latin term lacrima means a tear, referring to its relation to the tear duct. A crest is a ridge of bone.
