Popliteal artery

Other Terms: Arteria poplitea, Artère poplitée

Description

The popliteal artery lies deep in the mid-line of the popliteal space upon the back of the distal end of the femur, the oblique popliteal ligament of the knee-joint, and the popliteus muscle. The guide to it is the lateral margin of the semimembranosus. It is overlaid by the tibial nerve and the popliteal vein. The tibial nerve is more superficial.
