Pedicle of vertebral arch of ...
Other Terms: Vertebral pedicle, Pedicle of vertebral arch, Pediculus arcus vertebrae
The pedicle is the short, thick process of bone joining the posterolateral body to the transverse process and lamina. It is a short, rounded rod of bone arising from the upper half of the vertebral body. The articular facets project from its junction with the laminae and transverse process.
Pedicle comes from the Latin term pediculus meaning little foot. This is the diminutive form of the Latin pes or foot. It applies to processes that resemble a foot or act as a foot or stem.
