Inferior articular process and facet ...

Description

These processes and articular surfaces arise from the junction of the pedicle and lamina near the base of the transverse process. Just anterior to them is the deep inferior vertebral notch. The ventral facing, oval articular surface is very smooth. This surface articulates with the inferior facet from the subjacent vertebra.

Etymology

Facet, literally means a little face. It came into English via the French diminutive facette that came from the Latin facies or face. Anatomically, the term describes smooth, flat surfaces.
