Description
This is the superiorly arched margin of bone forming the superior border of the orbit. The lateral aspect of the arch forms a sharp, prominent edge, while the medial portion of the arch is blunt and rounded. It divides the squamous portion of the frontal bone from the horizontal orbital plate.
Etymology
Orbital arises from the Latin orbis meaning a circle. Medieval anatomists were the first to apply this term to the eye socket. Supra means superior to something. Margin denotes a border or edge.
